Since 1958,

FRHAM is the leading service-based non-profit NGO in Malaysia advocating and promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), including family planning as well as the reproductive rights of women, men, youth and marginalized communities.

To champion sexual and reproductive health and rights for all, particularly the marginalized and underserved.

Our Vision

All people in Malaysia have access to information and services on sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Guiding Principles

The Federation is a not-for-profit organization.

The Federation is not and shall not be controlled by commercial interests and that all its income, commodities, property and other assets shall be applied solely towards the promotion of its objectives.

The Federation will ensure that Member-Associations’ family planning, sexual and reproductive health information and services shall be provided strictly on the basis of voluntary acceptance and informed choice.

The Federation will ensure that Member-Associations do not permit coercion of any form in family planning programmes.

History of FRHAM

Selangor Family Planning Association (Selangor FPA) was formally established as the first association in the country providing family planning services and advice.

Johor FPA was registered.

Perak FPA, now known as Perak Family Health Association (or Perak FHA), was registered.
[
Malacca FPA was registered.
[

Federation of Family Planning Associations, Federation of Malaya, was registered. The Federation functioned as a central coordinating body to champion the family planning cause and as a link to support the Federal Government and international bodies like the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).
Kelantan FPA, now known as Reproductive Health Association of Kelantan (or ReHAK), was registered.

Kedah FPA and Pahang FPA were registered. FRHAM became a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

Penang FPA (now known as Penang Family Health Development Association or Penang FHDA), Terengganu FPA, Perlis FPA and Negeri Sembilan FPA were registered.

Sarawak FPA was registered.

Sabah FPA was registered.
[
Sabah FPA and Sarawak FPA joined the Federation to form Federation of Family Planning Associations, Malaysia (FFPAM).

FRHAM was first accredited to International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

The 2008 Biennial Delegates Conference approved FFPAM’s name change from Federation of Family Planning Associations, Malaysia to Federation of Reproductive Health Associations, Malaysia (FRHAM) in recognition of the emphasis on reproductive health over family planning. The name change has been approved by the Registrar of Societies in January 2009.

FRHAM was reaccredited to International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

FRHAM together with its Penang, Kelantan and Sarawak State Member Associations successfully underwent an accreditation exercise by IPPF from April- October 2016.

1953

Selangor Family Planning Association (Selangor FPA) was formally established as the first association in the country providing family planning services and advice.

1955

Johor FPA was registered.

1956

Perak FPA, now known as Perak Family Health Association (or Perak FHA), was registered.

1957

Malacca FPA was registered.

1961

Kedah FPA and Pahang FPA were registered. FRHAM became a member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

1962

Penang FPA (now known as Penang Family Health Development Association or Penang FHDA), Terengganu FPA, Perlis FPA and Negeri Sembilan FPA were registered.

1978

2009
